With a wide range of websites, subscriptions and apps at our fingertips, a large percentage of the UK choose a service to pay for each month rather than watching live TV. But, which one should you subscribe to? Here’s our guide to the best streaming services available right now.
NOW TV
Have you previously had Sky channels and find yourself missing your favourite show? NOW TV is the only streaming service that provides you with Sky channel options without a dish or lengthy contract. If you’re wanting to try out NOW TV and any of its specific ‘passes’, you can usually find a trial option on their website. This can help you to decide which package to pay for each month without wasting money.
Unfortunately, NOW TV is one of the more expensive streaming services, so if you’re looking at a tight budget, this option may not be for you.
Netflix
A worldwide favourite, Netflix is a wallet-friendly option to watch series, films and documentaries. With rotational content, you will never be short of options to watch. If you’re a student, you are also eligible for offers and on occasion, 6 months free.
Netflix also offers a ‘child safe’ account option, where they make only child-friendly shows and films available on that account. This is a great option for those who want a piece of mind that their child only has access to age-appropriate options.
You can access Netflix on all devices with an app store.
Disney+
Featuring Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel, Disney+ is perfect for both families and fans alike. You can watch Disney+ on most devices with downloadable app features, meaning this streaming service is great for both on-the-go and your livingroom.
Try Disney+ with a 7-day trial, just remember that if you don’t plan on paying monthly, that it is cancelled so you don’t occur any pay-monthly charge. An affordable option, Disney+ is £5.99 per month or just £59 per year.
Apple TV
A lower-priced monthly service, Apple TV is £4.99 per month and is available on all Apple devices, games consoles and Apple TV box. Unlike its rivals, this option only offers original content, for now, such as ‘The Morning Show’ and has a much narrower range of shows and movies to choose from.
Trying it out is easy. When you get a new Apple product, you also receive 1-year free subscription to Apple TV or you can get a 7-day free trial on their website to try it out before committing to a monthly subscription.
Amazon Prime Video
With a 30-day free trial option, you can try out Amazon Prime video without paying anything. A big selling point for Prime is that they offer Live sports coverage included in their package deal and a growing number of exclusives. However, it’s key to note that Prime doesn’t offer many hit-tv shows unlike many of its competitors but it is expanding with each rotation.
A big win for Prime Video is the free next-day postage option. This allows you to shop on www.amazon.co.uk with ease and provides quick to-your-door service with any online shopping that you do.
Amazon Prime Video is only £7.99 per month and best streamed on their Amazon Fire Stick where you’re also able to download other apps such as Netflix if you like to have options. Prime Video is also available for download on smart TVs and other devices compatible with apps.
Other Options
Free services such as BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4 and My5 are available with most streaming sticks and smart tv’s making it even easier to access free on-demand shows and movies.
It is important to note that with any live TV or BBC services, you must have a valid TV licence that costs £157.50 per year or you may be fined anywhere up to £1,000.
Keeping the cost down is easy when you have decided on which service is right for you. Take advantage of comparison sites and free trial periods offered by companies to ensure you only pay for what’s right for you.
