Things To Look Out For When Switching Broadband Provider

By Unknown on 26/11/2020 13:43

So, you’ve grown tired of the devastatingly slow speeds from your current broadband provider. Or maybe it’s the expensive monthly cost you’re fed up of forking out. Or the fact that you’re consistently hitting your data usage limit without fail. But with so many names out there, what should you be looking out for when switching your broadband provider?

Broadband Speed Test

The first thing you should do is run a speed test with your current broadband, and note down the results. You can use this as a guide if you’re currently struggling with slow speeds, or use it as a benchmark if you’re happy with the speed but aren’t happy with your current monthly cost or usage limit. You can use our speed test which includes a handy guide for deciphering the results.

Location

Remember to take into account where you’re living when considering a switch. If you’re living in an urban area, the chances of you being able to access superfast or ultrafast broadband are a lot higher than if you’re based in a more rural location. You can see what your predicted broadband availability is by typing in your postcode on Ofcoms Broadband Checker.

Provider Reviews

Spend a bit of time comparing broadband providers before searching for deals. There’s no better way to get an idea of what a provider is like than by seeing what their customers have said around them. Remember to take into account their reputation for customer service, just in case you encounter issues.

Speed & Limits

Consider how frequently you’ll be using your new broadband when you start your search. If you’re having regular Netflix binges, working from home and regularly accessing your social media, you’ll definitely need a faster connection and high data usage limit. Alternatively, if you spend a limited amount of time using your broadband, don’t overpay for data you’re not going to use.

Contract Length

Contract lengths are usually 12, 18 or 24 months, so think about what is best for your lifestyle. You may be thinking about moving out at some point in the future for example, so jumping onto a 24 month contract probably isn’t the best idea, and you’ll probably be faced with a chunky cancellation fee to pay. Some broadband offers can come with the first couple of months free, so be sure to search around and see what you can find.

Extra Costs

On top of your monthly fee, providers will often throw in additional costs. These can include set up fees and delivery fees, which can be found free on some offers. If you’re looking for a contract with unlimited data usage, make sure it’s truly unlimited, or that you’re aware of a ‘fair usage policy’ so you don’t get hit with an extra charge.

Your new deal needs to be right for you, so it’s worth following the steps above to find the best broadband offer. We can help find your perfect provider based off of your chosen provider, data limit or speed, with new deals added daily!
