What Are the Most Anticipated TV Shows of 2022 and Where Can You Find Them?

By Daisy Croskell on 03/02/2022 12:18

From bingeing an entire season in one day, to patiently waiting every week for the next edition, TV has taken over a majority of our lives. Who needs to socialise with family when you can make friends with Tommy Shelby, or Rick and Morty? 2022 is a goldmine for highly-produced and much-anticipated TV shows, available on standard TV channels and digital TV services. Various packages that have TV and Broadband offers include these subscription services, so it's good to know where to find these popular series.

Here is a list of our favourites to come.

Netflix

Netflix has proven to be a fan favourite when it comes to TV and broadband offers that include digital TV services. Usually paired with Sky or Virgin Media packages, Netflix ranges from £5.99 to £13.99, depending on how many screens you require, with HD only available on the Standard and Premium.

Popular shows such as Stranger Things and The Crown have their series 4 and series 5 released in 2022, respectively. The Crown, in particular, showcases a brand new cast with Imelda Staunton taking over as Queen Liz. The much-anticipated Stranger Things is set to answer the question (spoiler alert) 'how is hopper still alive?' Teased in the trailers leading up to the series. Currently, there is no date, but the TV subscription service will most likely release it for Summer.

Want something completely different? Neil Gaiman's graphic novel collection The Sandman was deemed "unfilmable" for decades. Now with a full cast, including preferred pronouns on the promos and a switch from male to female for Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie), the series will feature 11 1-hour episodes covering volume one. Much is still left in the dark, but it is expected to be highly-rated and could potentially take the top spot of most viewed; in the words of Gaiman himself, "Holy sh**! This is Amazing!"

Amazon Prime

Now for a trip to the Shire. Set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit, the much anticipated The Lord of the Rings: Power of the Rings is set to be released on September the 2nd. A massively produced and budgeted series, Amazon Originals bought the rights for a hefty $250 million. New Zealand once again substituting for a Middle Earth, the series will exclusively be on the subscription service Amazon Prime, which costs £7.99 a month and includes access to free delivery on the site.

Disney +

One of the newer TV streaming subscriptions, Disney +, like Amazon, is also £7.99 a month. This includes access to all content; including Star, Marvel and Star Wars. From scandals to anger issues, Disney + has a wide range of content releasing in 2022.

Should you make a controversial show about a controversial tape? Pam & Tommy, a black comedy based on the aftermath of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee's (erm, private?) tape has already made headlines. From the unreal transformation of actors Lily James and Sebastian Stan, to the backlash from fans stating that the series exploits a traumatic and sensationalised modern event. Even Anderson herself has called the series a "cheap knock-off". Nevertheless, it has gained traction and is one of the most anticipated shows coming to the TV subscription service Disney +. The first three episodes will be released on February 2nd.

She-Hulk will be the latest edition to the MCU and will follow the likes of Hawkeye and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, setting up a new generation of avenging heroes. This time: the Incredible (wouldn't like him when he's angry) Hulk. However, this time following his cousin Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), as she comes to terms with her new powers. Aided by fan-favourite Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), the series is seen as Ruffalo passing the baton to his new successor and stepping out of the limelight. It will be available on Disney + sometime later in the year.

Standard TV Channels

Though everything seems to be online, classic TV channels such as BBC One and Channel 4 are still producing high-quality TV content, with millions of viewers tuning in each week. 2022 welcomes the end for many much-loved British series, as they go into their final seasons.

Killing Eve, starting on February 22, and Peaky Blinders (TBD) both have made their homes on BBC. Each has its own cliffhangers that need resolving, they are amongst the channel's highest-rated and viewed shows, with all the previous series available on BBC iPlayer for fans to catch up. The channel is free, however, a TV licence for live watching on standard TV channels. For more information on TV licence regulations, read our previous article.
